Project summary

Design for Robotic Welding

Robotic welding can deliver significant productivity improvements over manual or semi-automated welding.

Eminox seeks to develop an automated robotic welding capability to:

  • Increase production capacity
  • lower the cost of the current manual welding operation.

Eminox will apply the 400 hours consulting on developing a specific “Design for Robotic Welding” methodology for its product range. The project goal is to develop a “toolkit” to identify and understand the requirements necessary for robotic welding at each stage in the manufacturing process, right back to the initial design concept and specification.

Impact (expected)

This voucher work will perform an in depth analysis around the Design and Manufacturing Processes of Eminox legacy products, with a specific focus on the use of welding within the product. Once complete, this evaluation will be used to inform potential future changes to the product design and manufacturing process; in order to reduce the level of adaptability required by a robotic welding cell. The final activity of the voucher will deliver potential concepts for a robotic welding cell, including researched advanced control systems and fixturing solutions.

The work should provide the customer with an understanding on how to avoid complex welds in the future and demonstrate what the robotic welding cell could incorporate, with a physical demonstrator to be produced in future work.
